GIS 2025: Redefining the Heart of Innovation in Interventional Cardiology
From November 27–29, 2025, Dubai became the epicenter of global cardiovascular excellence as the Gulf Intervention Society (GIS) launched the 7th Annual Conference, hosted at the InterContinental Festival City under the patronage of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Emirates Health Services (EHS).
The event united over 200 international and regional experts, featuring 35 scientific sessions, 195 presentations, and 8 live cardiac transmissions streamed from world-renowned centers in the UAE, KSA, Oman, Iraq, Italy, and the USA.
Guided by ICOM Group’s meticulous event management, GIS 2025 showcased how scientific depth, global collaboration, and flawless execution can converge to elevate cardiology education across the GCC and beyond.
A Vision Anchored in Collaboration
At its core, GIS 2025 embodied the society’s mission: advancing interventional cardiology through regional unity and global expertise.
Dr. Fawaz Almutairi, President of the Gulf Intervention Society, remarked:
“This year, we sought to explore the latest global developments in cardiac therapies and highlight the most advanced interventional technologies and challenges facing physicians — from congenital heart disease to structural interventions and imaging-guided procedures. GIS 2025 represents a powerful platform to enhance knowledge-sharing and refine best practices.”
The 2025 edition expanded significantly, hosting two main halls and multiple specialized workshops, alongside strategic sessions developed in collaboration with leading global cardiac associations — ensuring every perspective, from innovation to implementation, was represented.
A Conference of Scale and Substance
- 200+ experts and speakers from the Middle East, Europe, and North America
- 35+ scientific sessions and 195 presentations
- 8 live case transmissions from world-class cardiac centers
- 100 complex cases discussed in real-time
- Workshops & simulation labs for coronary, TAVI, and CTO procedures
These figures reflect more than just attendance — they represent a growing ecosystem of shared research, regional collaboration, and clinical advancement.
The Science in Action
GIS 2025 wasn’t just a conference — it was a living classroom.
From complex case reviews to simulation-based training, every session offered practical, hands-on engagement that bridged theory with real-world application.
Highlights included:
- The GULF TOBI Session, spotlighting advanced interventional techniques for calcified coronary lesions.
- Joint sessions with international societies on acute coronary syndromes and cardiogenic shock, showcasing the latest ACC/AHA 2025 guidelines in action.
- Workshops on TAVI, coronary imaging, and robotic-assisted interventions, reflecting the field’s technological evolution.
Dr. Abdullah Shehab, Vice President of the Gulf Intervention Society, shared:
“One of the most impactful sessions this year was the collaboration with the American Heart Association, where we discussed acute coronary syndromes and cardiogenic shock — some of the most critical and time-sensitive cardiac emergencies. The dialogue between international experts helped bridge global protocols with Gulf region realities.”
Beyond Knowledge: A Platform for Progress
GIS 2025 introduced the Gulf Trialists Collaboration Network, a groundbreaking initiative to unify research efforts and build regional data registries aimed at advancing patient care outcomes in the Gulf region.
Complementing this, training simulations and advanced workshops offered hands-on practice using cutting-edge technologies in a risk-free learning environment — transforming education into tangible skill development.
Dr. Mousa Akbar, Secretary General of GIS, emphasized:
“GIS has consistently been a trusted scientific platform — one that not only educates but inspires. This year, we focused on how emerging technologies, from intravascular imaging to robotics, can transform the precision and safety of interventional cardiology procedures.”
Commitment, Growth, and Global Recognition
Under the leadership of Dr. Fawaz Almutairi, GIS continues to establish itself as a regional and international reference point for excellence in cardiovascular medicine.
The diversity of this year’s program reflected a forward-looking vision — one that prioritizes collaboration, education, and innovation.
Dr. Khalid Bin Thani, Treasurer of GIS, concluded:
“The strong institutional support from the Dubai Health Authority and Emirates Health Services underscores the importance of this congress. With over 2,700 participants last year and growing demand, GIS continues to expand its impact every year, supported by ICOM Group’s dedication to delivering international-standard scientific events.”
ICOM Group: Behind the Precision
As the official managing partner of GIS, ICOM Group once again delivered an event defined by precision, professionalism, and seamless coordination.
From managing the international faculty experience to overseeing logistics, technical production, and digital integration, ICOM’s behind-the-scenes work empowered the scientific vision to take center stage.
Their contribution ensured that GIS 2025 was not just successful — but unforgettable.
A Legacy that Grows Stronger Each Year
More than a conference, GIS 2025 was a celebration of science, skill, and solidarity — a collective heartbeat that connects cardiologists from across the Gulf and the globe.
It reaffirmed the society’s mission to lead by example, promote education through experience, and continue building a bridge between regional expertise and international innovation.
ICOM Group remains proud to support the Gulf Intervention Society in its ongoing mission to advance cardiovascular medicine and inspire the next generation of interventional cardiologists.
